Some of the bones, found in Victoria Cave in the dales, date back more than one hundred thousand years, when these creatures roamed northern England.
A team of archaeologists from the organisation DigVentures has set out to transform the site and digitise its unique collection.
Science reporter Victoria Gill visited the cave with the team to find out more.

GIVE THE GIFT OF LOVE

On the 4th of October the world will be celebrating world animal day. Let us celebrate together and give the gift of love and bring home your own furry friend today. Still not convinced, well here are 10 reasons why you should adopt a cat/dog.

  1. CATS: Cats are easy to care for, they do not need to be walked and since they can hunt they need not to be fed to often. Cats need little attention and some play so that makes them the perfect pet for people with long work days and  small apartments.
  2. DOGS: Scientific studies have shown that people who own dogs are less likely to become depressed and have lower levels of stress and higher self esteem levels.
  3. CATS: Another reason cats are so easy to take care of, cats can bathe themselves and actually prefer to bathe themselves as they dislike water. Cats have rough tonuges that can get dirt off thier coat.
  4. DOG: Most  adoption fees include spaying/neutering, vaccineand micro chips. So no need to visit the vet and spens hundreds of dollors on that when you can just pay the average adoption fee of 0-60$ instead.
  5. CATS: Although they are inexpensive and independent they are still quite cute and cuddly. Studies have shown that cats enjoy being pet in 4 spots like the underside of the chin and the base of the tail but avoid belly rubs!
  6. DOGS: Specific breeds of dogs can act as a good protection system. They can warn you when someone might be trying to break in and attack when they do. Think of it as a furry alarm system.
  7. CATS: Cats do not need to be potty trained. Cats naturally bury thier excrement and if given the decision to bury thier exrement or leave thier exrement where "other animals could potentially use it to track them" they will use the litter box.
  8. DOGS: By adopting a dog you are helping to fight the on going problem, stray animals. Stray animals are a problem for both people and animals and by adopting that animal you are giving it a home with you instead of in a shelter or on the streets.
  9. CATS: Cats spend about 15 hours a day sleeping which is perfect time for cuddling. Imagine this, you're on the couch under a blanket watching your favorite show and your cats comes over and curls up on your belly. A cute, warm, fuzzy purring pillow.
  10. Cats and dogs are not only benificial towards you but you are saving that animals life by giving it a home where it can be loved and feel appriciated.

HONEYBEES: PERISHING POLLINATORS

Honey bees, one of natures greatest pollinators. According to scientist these unappreciated little helpers pollinate almost 80 percent of all of our flowering crops, that's almost 1/3 of all we eat!

Believe it or not honey bees are starting to slowly disappear from our environment. Honey bees are so helpful and important to both the environment and to us, what would our world be like without them. Scientists believe pesticides may be behind this heinous crime, what a surprise. Although it is not fully known why the honey bees of Earth just suddenly started to, well, disappear.

Oh wait a light shines above us in, the University of Helsinki? Yep that's right a genius man has discovered that there may still be hope for our fuzzy little friends. Scientests have been doing some research on insects and their immune system, this study may be the answer to the honey bee crisis. Scientists have found that there may be a possibility that they can create a vaccine to protect bees against disease is now a potential solution. Dr. Dalial Freitak tells local recourses, "We are dancing in the lab. It's like winning the lottery." A honey bee lottery that is! "The team has discovered that vitellogenin, a protein found in egg yolk, finds and binds the signature molecules of pathogens eaten by the queen bee. These signature molecules are then carried by the vittellogenin into the queen's eggs, where they work as primers for future immune responses. The breakthrough has aloud researchers to start working on bee vaccines."

Yay a solution, thank you scientists. Now when ever a bee might annoy you forget you a little mad, don't smoosh it swat it with a fly swatter, just remember that these little guys are in trouble and we need every honeybee we can get. By not smooshing that bee you're saving the environment, because everything starts, with you.
