HIPPOS-LAST ARTICLE

                            HIPPOS- LAST ARTICLE

In our last article we talked about how dangerous and deadly hippos can be but now let me tell you about the sweet side of these "river monsters" or "gentle giants", you decide

A mother hippos growls and roars at you as you feel you've been struck by an arrow of fear. Your heart skips a beat and the only thing going through your mind is "what an evil creature". Suddnley you see another hippo emerge from the muddy depths. That one is different though as it is smaller. Suddenly you think, "it's-it's, a calf". A grin spreads across your face and you realize why the mother hippo is growling at you. She's just protecting her calf. You gladly turn your canoe around and leave the mother hippo and her calf to themselves.

HIPPOS CONTINUED

                            HIPPOS- CONTINUED

Hippos are cool creatures that everybody likes. But little know how dangerous they can actually be. They bite down with a total of 1821 psi which could DESTROY you. Have you ever lifted 1821 pounds, yeah I thought so. Well imagine yourself lifting 1821 pounds and you drop the dumb bell on your foot. OUCH, that's how it would feel, on your head.
Wow they sure have good defense so they must not run fast also right, I mean, they weigh 3,000 pounds. Wrong, they can run 19 mph compared to an average human who can run to speeds of about 28 mph. we may be able to outrun them but some animals may not. Some animals that can't out run a hippo include a crocodile, manatee, koala and an American woodcock. Hippos are interesting creatures and are definently dangerous and in this article I have told you how dangerous they can be but join us tomorrow as I tell you how sweet they can be too.

HIPPOS:THE CUTE KILLERS

HIPPOS: THE CUTE KILLERS

Your on your vacation because schools out and your on break, it's summer. Today your taking a kayak through a "peaceful" river. Suddenly you see a big grey hump pop out of the water followed by a head, It's a hippopotamus. The male defends his territory and lifts his head out of the water as he begins to grunt as the grunts turn into roars. He gives you a second warning and faster then a cheetah your out of there. Luckily you know about hippos and you know he wasn't yawning but rather defending his territory. If you had stayed just a second longer you were sure to be a goner. Many people might of thought he was yawning and that's what results in over 2,000 deaths a year. What's behind that master disguise and that mask of cuteness, a killer or a lover.

Hippos are magnificently complex creatures who represent the complexity of evolution at it's fullest.
They are extremely territorial and will do anything to defend their territory and their females, even kill.
